Lot description: Titus, as Caesar, 69-79. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.90 g, 5 h), Rome. T CΛESΛR IMP VESPΛSIΛNVS Laureate head of Titus to right. Rev. TR POT VIII COS VII Quadriga to left, containing three grain ears; car decorated with garland. BMCRE 256 (Vespasian). BN 226-227 (Vespasian). RIC II 1073 (Vespasian). RSC 336. Minor deposits, otherwise, very fine. This coin was struck shortly before Vespasian's death, and is from the last issue of Titus as Caesar. The reverse type, probably depicting a procession of a calathus in honor of Ceres, is copied from denarii of the Augustan moneyers L. Aquillius Florus and M. Durmius. Starting price: 100 CHF |
