Lot description: CELTS IN EASTERN EUROPE. Imitating Thasos (Island off Thrace). After 148 B.C. AR tetradrachm. 16.02 gm. 36 mm. Stylized head of Dionysos right, wearing ivy wreath and taenia / Stylized and degraded Herakles standing facing, holding club and lion skin depicted, along with legend, by series of pellets. OTA Class V; cf. HGC 6, 359 (for prototype). Very Fine; nicely toned, with iridescence along rim; pleasing unusual style; well centered and sharply struck on an oversized extremely broad full round flan.
