Lot description: KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great.' 336-323 B.C. AR tetradrachm. 17.18 gm. 24 mm. Lifetime issue. Babylon mint. Struck under Stamenes or Archon, circa 324/3 B.C. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; bee to left, monogram below throne, M in exergue. Price 3621. Extremely Fine; attractive old collection tone with hints of iridescence; good style; well centered and sharply struck, beautifully placed on a large flan. Choice coin. From a collection of high quality tetradrachms in the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon from different mints, formed in the American Midwest in the 1950s, carefully sourced from Spink & Son in London, NFA (Edward Gans) in NYC, and Earle Stanton in LA., among others.
