Lot description: ATTICA, Athens. Circa 165-42 BC. AR Tetradrachm (30.5mm, 16.33 g, 12h). New Style coinage. Epigene–, Sosandros, and Antigono(s), magistrates. Struck 125/4 BC. Helmeted head of Athena Parthenos right / Owl standing right, head facing, on amphora; magistrates' names in fields; to left, eagle standing right on thunderbolt; A(?) on amphora, ΣΦ in exergue; all within laurel wreath. Thompson 456a (same obv. die as 451); HGC 4, 1602. Find patina, extensive cleaning scratches, struck with worn obverse die. Good Fine. Estimate: 200 USD |
