Lot description: Thrace, Abdera. Octodrachm circa 500-480, AR 28 mm, 29.38 g. Griffin seated l. with r. forepaw raised; to l., ivy leaf. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. May, Abdera 33 corr. (control mark). SNG Ashmolean 3434 = C–N p. 105, pl. 6, 7 (this obverse die). Asyut 130. Very rare. Struck in high relief and of excellent Archaic style.
