Lot description: Roman Empire, Selection from Philip to Jovian (8): i) Maximinus I Thrax, AR Denarius, IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG, laureate bust right, rev. P M TR P II COS P P Maximinus standing facing left between two standards and holding a spear, 3.14g, nice portrait, good fine; ii) Gordian III, another, IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate and draped bust right, rev. SALVS AVGVSTI, Salus standing holding serpent and feeding it from patera, 2.74g, some darkening, but a pleasing portrait, fine to good fine; iii) Gordian III, another, IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. DIANA LVCIFERA, Diana advancing right, holding torch, 2.74g, cleaned but detailed, good very fine; iv) Herennia Etruscilla, AR Antoninianus, struck under Trajan II Decius, HER ETRUSCILLA AVG, diademed and draped bust right, resting on a crescent, rev. PVDICITIA AVG, Pudicitia standing holding sceptre in left hand and replacing veil with her right, 5.02g, struck from worn dies, cleaning marks, nevertheless a bold portrait, about very fine; v) Philip II, as Caesar, struck c. AD 244-247, AR Antoninianus, M IVL PHILIPPVS CAES, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. PRINCIPI IVVENT, Philip standing holding globe and spear, 5.06g (RIC 218d), slight evidence of a double strike, otherwise detailed, pristine, good very fine or better; vi) Philip I IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, radiate and draped bust right, rev. LIBERALITAS AVGG II, Liberalitas standing left, holding coin counter and cornucopiae, 5.05g (RIC 38b), struck from somewhat worn dies, as evidenced by legend, but otherwise, a lovely example, highly detailed and blessed with a subtle, attractive tone, good very fine; vii) another, IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, rev. AEQVITAS AVGG Aequitas standing facing left holding cornucopiae and scales, 3.32g (RIC 27b), some corrosion, fine; viii) Jovian, AE, D N IOVIANVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev.
