Second Democracy, AR Tetradrachm, unsigned issue of Parmenides, c. 405 BC, fast quadriga driven left, the driver holding reins and kentron and crowned by Nike flying above right, beneath the hooves of the horses, a wheel set upon a double exergual line with a barley grain in exergue, rev. traces of 'SYRAKOSION', head of Artemis-Arethusa to left, hair tied by ampys in front and sphendone ornamented with stars, four dolphins around, 16.98g (SNG Lloyd 1388 (this obverse die); SNG München 1064 (this obverse die); Rizzo pl. 47, 20 (this reverse die); Jameson 833 (this reverse die); Tudeer 75 (this reverse die)), a fascinating coin with an unusual die-combination of two desirable types, showcasing a dynamic chariot scene and a powerful portrait, lightly toned and well struck upon a residually lustrous flan, about very fine.
