Anonymous (ca. AD 10th-11th centuries). Lead seal or bulla (22mm, 25.06 gm, 6h). XF. + ΘKЄ RΘ TAC BACIΛICCIC, nimbate bust of the Virgin Nikopoios facing, wearing pallium and maphorium, holding with both hands medallion with the draped, nimbate bust of the infant Christ; MHP (monogram, barred)-ΘV (barred) across fields, triple border / + ΘKЄ RΘ TAC BACIΛICCIC, nimbate bust of the Virgin Nikopoios facing, wearing pallium and maphorium, holding with both hands medallion with the draped, nimbate bust of the infant Christ; MHP (monogram, barred)-ΘV (barred) across fields, triple border.

A thick, heavy, well-executed, and attractive example, with what appears to be remaining silvering on protected areas of the surfaces. Similar in style and execution to the Zoe and Theodora gold histamenon nomisma of AD 1042, Sear 1827.

Rev. +IⲰMA S EVΔKI Facing half-length busts of Romanus IV, on the left, and Eudocia, on the right, both crowned and holding together globe surmounted by a long cross. DOC 3. SB 1862. Struck from worn and corroded dies and with a scrape on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.

Rev. +ΘΚΕ ΒΟΗΘΕΙ ΤΩ CΩ ΔOYΛ, /O N/I-K/O/Λ Nimbate facing bust of Saint Nikolaos, raising hand in benediction and holding the book of the Gospels. A beautiful seal, product of an imperial workshop? Good very fine.
