Lot description:

Lydia, The Kaystrianoi Æ 15mm. 2nd-1st centuries BC. Head of Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath / ΚΑΥΣΤΡΙΑΝΩΝ, lyre with four strings formed from a bucranium; monograms to right and left. Unpublished with these monograms. 3.49g, 15mm, 1h.

Very Fine. Extremely Rare; unpublished variant.

The Kaystrianoi were people of the plain of Kayster and it is quite uncertain whether they issued bronze coins for circulation throughout the whole district at one or more mints. However, the ethnic may belong to the plain of Kayster and not to a city with this name.

Estimate: 50 GBP
