Lot description: Kingdom of Pergamon, Eumenes II Æ 10mm. In the name of Philetairos. Circa 197-159 BC. Laureate head of Apollo to right / ΦΙΛΕΤΑΙΡΟΥ, bee; [ΔΙ below]. BMC 65; SNG Copenhagen 353; Imhoof-Blumer F., Die Münzen Der Dynastie Von Pergamon 62, pl. III, 7 1.11g, 10mm, 12h. Near Very Fine. Exceedingly Rare; no other examples on CoinArchives. The attribution of this small bronze to Eumenes II is based mainly on Imhoof-Blumer's thesis that the majority of the bronzes bearing the name of Philetairos depict the controls of the contemporaneous tetradrachms. Estimate: 75 GBP |
