Kings of Pontos, Mithradates VI Eupator AV Stater. First Mithradatic War issue. Tomis, circa 88-86 BC. Struck in the name and types of Lysimachos of Thrace. Diademed head of the deified Alexander to right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated to left, shield at her side; ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ to right, ΛΥΣΙMΑXOY to left; ΘΕΜ to inner left, TO on throne, ornamented trident in exergue. Callataÿ p. 141 (D4/R1); AMNG I, 2480; SNG Copenhagen 1091 (same dies); HGC 3.2, 1931. 8.27g, 20mm, 12h.

Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, transverse spear in background; monogram to inner left; fish hook(?) in exergue. CNG E-324, lot 91 (same dies) otherwise, unpublished, but obverse dies by the same engraver are known for Lysimachi from Kyzikos: cf. SNG France 2523–4 and G.K. Jenkins, "A Hellenistic Hoard from Mesopotamia," MN 13 (1967), 39; also see CNG E-322, lot 213 for a very similar coin with the same symbol in the exergue, but a different monogram. Bent flan, multiple stress cracks; fragile. Good VF. Rare.
