Elaiousa war nach den Ölhainen, die es dort in großer Zahl gab, benannt. Der von Augustus geförderte kappadokische König Archelaos, der sich 12 v. Chr. dort eine Residenz erbaute, nannte sie zu Ehren seines Gönners in Sebaste/Augusta um. Die Ruinen der Stadt liegen östlich der Mündung des Kalykadnos (Göksu) ins Mittelmeer bei dem Dorf Ayaş. The Cappadocian king Archelaus, who was supported by Augustus and built a residence there in 12 BC, renamed it Sebaste/Augusta in honor of his patron.
