Omphale is a figure from Greek mythology, known for her role in the mythological tales involving the hero Heracles (Hercules in Roman mythology). She was a queen of Lydia, a region in Asia Minor, and was said to have been the daughter of King Iardanus. According to myth, as a punishment for committing a crime, Heracles was required to serve Omphale for a period of time. During this time, he was forced to perform menial tasks and wear women's clothing, while Omphale wore his lion skin and carried his club. This role reversal was meant to be a humiliation for Heracles and a demonstration of Omphale's power and dominance. Despite the humiliation, Heracles and Omphale eventually formed a romantic relationship, and some myths suggest that they even had children together. Omphale's story serves as an example of the complex and often unpredictable relationships between mortals and gods in Greek mythology.
