LYDIA, Thyateira. Commodus. AD 177-192. Æ Medallion (41mm, 44.50 g, 6h). Titos Aure. Barbaros, strategos. Struck ca. AD 184-7. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Hephaestus seated right on wreathed cippus, working with hammer on a helmet held with tongs set on column; to right, Athena, standing left, holding spear, hand set on grounded shield. Hochard 2438 (D73/R138); Kurth 219-20; RPC IV.2 Online 2946. Dark brown patina with green highlights, light porosity, cleaning scratches, scrape on obverse. Near VF. Rare mythological type.
