Lot description: Q. Caecilius Metellus Pius Scipio, 47-46 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 4.00 g, 12 h), with M. Eppius, legatus. Military mint moving with Scipio in Africa. Q•METEL[L] - SCIPIO•IMP Head of Africa to right, wearing elephant skin headdress; to right, stalk of grain; below, plow. Rev. LEG•F•C - EPPIVS Hercules standing facing, right hand set on his hip and leaning left on club draped with lion's skin and set on rock. Babelon (Caecilia) 50 and (Eppia) 1. Crawford 461/1. CRI 44.
