Lot description: MACEDON, Chalkidian League. Circa 425-390 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.50 g, 1 h), Olynthos. Laureate head of Apollo to left. Rev. Τ-Ρ/Ι-Η Laurel branch in a dotted square border, all within a shallow incuse square. HGC 3, I, 507. Psoma, Monnaies, p. 103, 6472. Robinson-Clement Type 2 (Trieros). Attractively toned. A couple of light marks, otherwise, very fine. From an American collection, ex Obolos 11, 8 December 2018, 82. Formerly attributed to an unknown and probably non-existent mint called Trieros, Psoma has convincingly argued that the legend on the reverse, TPIH, is not the ethnic but rather an abbreviation for the denomination, a trihemiobol. Starting price: 25 CHF |
