Hadrian. Sestertius; Hadrian; 117-138 AD, Rome, c. 120-1 AD, Sestertius, 24.41g. Bust type var. of RIC-420-1, BM-1188, and C-930 (30 Fr.). Obv: IMP CAESAR TRAIANVS H[A]DRI - ANVS AVG P M TR P COS III Bust laureate r. with aegis on front shoulder and behind neck. Rx: LIBERALITAS A - VG III around, S - C in exergue, Hadrian, togate, seated l. on curule chair on platform and extending r. hand; a second togate figure stands behind him, before him officer standing l. holding up coin counter, before platform recipient standing r. holding up fold of toga with both hands. Ex Curtis L. Clay Collection; ex Agora E42, 6 October 2015, 160. A scarce reverse type, with only two specimens in Garonne hoard; apparently unpublished with aegis bust type as on our coin..
