PHRYGIA. Laodicea ad Lycum. Elagabalus, 218-222. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 33 mm, 14.60 g, 6 h), commemorating the Commodeian Antonine Games. ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΥ ΑΝ - ΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus to right, seen from behind. Rev. ΚΟΜΟΔΟΥ ΚΕ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟΥ // ΛΑΟΔΙΚΕ/ΩΝ ΝΕΩΚΟ/ΡΩΝ Two temples, both shown in perspective on a high podium, and each bearing a globe in its pediment and with a laurel wreath atop each akroterion. Bennett, Local Elites, 237 = Burrell p. 123, 11a and illus. 98. RPC VI Online, 5502. Very rare, with only three specimens known to the RPC. Golden brown toning. Some pitting, otherwise, good very fine.

Laodicea received its neokorate early in the reign of Commodus, but it was immediately withdrawn after his assassination. While he was rehabilitated under Septimius Severus, the nokorate was only restored under Caracalla.
