Lot description:

AUGUSTUS, 27 B.C.- A.D. 14. AR Denarius (3.79 gms), Lugdunum Mint, ca, A.D. 13-14. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5.
RIC-220; RSC-223. Obverse: Laureate head right; Reverse: Livia (as Pax) seated right on chair with plain legs, holding scepter and branch. A lovely example of this seldom-encountered type from the closing years of Augustus' reign that would serve as a prototype for the famed "Tribute Penny" of his successor, Tiberius. Struck from high-quality dies, it displays excellent depictions of Rome's first emperor and empress. Brilliant luster throughout attests to the coin's impressive lack of circulation.

Estimate: $400 - $600
