Lot description:

Maurice Tiberius. Æ 4 Pentanummi or 1/2 Follis (3.87 g), 582-602
Cherson. Maurice, on left, holding globus cruciger, and Constantina, on right, holding long cruciform scepter, both nimbate, standing facing. Reverse: Theodosius, nimbate, standing facing, holding staff surmounted by Christogram; to right, cross above large Δ. Cf. DOC 301; cf. MIB 161a; cf. SB 610. Possibly unpublished as a cast issue. About Very Fine. This unusual coin copies the types of the 4 Pentanummi issues of Maurice Tiberius from Cherson, but instead of being struck it is a cast issue, much like the eight and ninth century Byzantine issues from Cherson. Perhaps it is simply a late imitation of the early issues struck under Maurice.

Estimate: 500 USD
