Ancients
CARIA. Mylasa. Ca. 175-150 BC. AR tetradrachm (27mm, 9.41 gm, 11h). NGC Choice XF 3/5 - 3/5. Struck in November. M-Y, rose with bud on tendril to right; bunch of grapes in left field / Eagle standing right on palm branch, wings spread; IA-A across upper fields, AΠ to right of eagle's legs. SNG von Aulock 2863 var. (reverse field marks). SNG Kayhan 842 var. (same). Very rare with velveteen surfaces.

Very few of these coins have come to light. R. Ashton argues they show the month of issue but, unfortunately, not the year. In this theory, AΠ is the abbreviation for the month of AΠEΛΛAIOΣ (=November) in the Macedonian calendar.
