Lot description: SICILY, Syracuse. Agathokles. 317-289 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26.5mm, 17.26 g, 7h). Struck circa 317-310 BC. Head of Arethousa left, wearing wreath of grain ears, triple-pendant earring, and pearl necklace; three dolphins around, NI below neck / Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand, reins in left, driving fast quadriga left; counterclockwise triskeles above, ΣYPAKOΣIΩN and A in exergue. Ierardi 29 (O4/R15); BAR Issue 2; HGC 2, 1348; Morgan 150 (same dies); Ars Classica XVI, lot 840 (same dies). Toned, with golden iridescence around the devices, a little die rust on obverse, slight die shift on reverse. Good VF. From the Wayne Scheible Collection. Ex CNG inventory 502 (c. 1992).
