Boiotia, Tanagra, (387-375 B.C.), silver stater (11.85 g), obv. Boiotian shield, rev. forepart of horse springing to right, its neck bound with laurel wreath, in field to left T and to right A, (S.2450, BCD 265 [Triton IX same dies and dates early-mid 4th century], Head 'Boeotia' p.52, BMC 29). Toned, good very fine/very fine and very rare.

Ex CNG Mail Bid Sale 54, June 14, 2000 (lot 576 illustrated), previously from the New York Auction II, December 2, 1999 (lot 80 illustrated and realised $1250 + 15% US and earlier ex. B.Peus Nachfolger Frankfurt Sale 292, 1977 (lot 505 illustrated).

Lot includes detailed collector's ticket. "Munzkunde"p.181 thinks the garland may be celebrating a victory in a chariot race or other competition involving horses.
