Boiotia, Tanagra, (500-480 B.C.), silver hemidrachm (2.06 g), obv. Boiotian shield wth horizontal T facing inwards in one opening (noted by Knobloch), rev. incuse square with clockwise mill-sail pattern, in relief T in two opposing incuse sections, (S.1806, cf.BCD 243 and 248, [Triton IX lot 243 drachm, 248 hemidrachm], Head 'Boeotia' p.12 cf.Pl.1.3], cf.BMC 4, cf.SNG Cop.215, HGC 4, 1284 [R2]). Toned, nearly extremely fine and very rare.
Ex BCD Collection purchased from CNG, 20 January 2007 privately, from CNG Sale 72, 14 June 2006 (lot 591), previously from the Henry Umans Collection who acquired it from Knobloch, Fixed Price List 23 for Fall 1963 No.234.
