Macedon, Kingdom of, Perseus, (179-168 B.C.), reduced Attic standard, silver tetradrachm, (14.47 g), Amphipolis Mint, issued 178-168 B.C., obv. laureate bearded head of Perseus to right, rev. eagle, wings open standing on thunderbolt, BASI LEWS above, PER SEWS below, monograms QE above, AY monogram to right of eagle, AN monogram below eagle legs, all within a oak-wreath beneath which is a plow, (S.6804, SNG Cop. -, Ash-, Fitz.-, Weber -, McLean -, Hunterian -, A.Mamroth 25 [ZfN. 1928], HG 3, 1094). Lightly toned, obverse nearly extremely fine with an attractive portrait, reverse good very fine with surface corrosion, a rare group of monograms.
