Lot description:

Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.77 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Arelate, irregular mint, after 325. CONSTANTINVS IVN NO C Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to left. Rev. VIRTV-S AVGG / ARLS Campgate with no doors and four turrets; above, star. Cf. RIC 291 and 294 (for possible prototype). An attractive piece with a lovely rendering of the emperor's drapery. Very light doubling on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This is a mule, with an obverse for Constantine II and a reverse for Constantine I. The style of this coin is clearly unofficial, indicating that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation.
