Lot description:

Commemorative Series, 330-354. Follis (Bronze, 15 mm, 1.43 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, irregular mint, after 330. VRBS ROMA Helmeted, laureate and mantled bust of Constantinopolis to left, holding scepter over her left shoulder. Rev. Victory standing front, head to left, placing her right foot on prow, holding scepter in her right hand and resting her left on shield; in exergue, TRS. Cf. RIC 523 (for possible prototype). Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, privately acquired from Lennox Gallery on 4 August 2000.

This small 'barbarous' imitation is an unusual mule. The bust is that of Constantinopolis but the accompanying legend reads 'VRBS ROMA'.
