Lot description: Fausta, Augusta, 324-326. Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 3.09 g, 12 h), Constantinopolis, 326. FLAV MAX FAVSTA AVG Draped bust of Fausta to right. Rev. SALVS REI PVBLICAE / CONS Fausta (or Salus), veiled, standing front, head to left, holding two children in her arms; in field to left, A. RIC 12. A very attractive piece with an enchantingly beautiful portrait. Minor roughness, otherwise, extremely fine. From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969, Part II, Leu Web Auction 26, 8-13 July 2023, 5365. As a rule, in every mint, coins for Helena and Fausta were struck in equal number. Today, however, coins of Fausta from Constantinople are rarer than those of Helena. Ramskold (Aborted production [2020b]) postulated that coins for Fausta were withdrawn from circulation after her death as part of her subsequent damnatio memoriae. Starting price: 75 CHF |
