| Lot description: Brutus, 43-42 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 18 mm, 3.31 g, 12 h), a contemporary plated imitation from an irregular mint, L. Plaetorius Cestianus, moneyer, after late summer-autumn 42. L•PLAET•CEST Laureate, draped and veiled bust of Ceres to right, wearing polos. Rev. BRVTVS•IMP Sacrificial axe and simpulum. Cf. Babelon (Junia) 51 and (Plaetoria) 12, Crawford 508/2, CRI 214, RBW 1781 and Sydenham 1300 (for prototype). Attractively toned. Minor breaks in plating, otherwise, very fine.
