Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 16 mm, 3.55 g, 2 h), C. Cossutius Maridianus, moneyer, Rome, April 44. CAESAR - [PARENS PATRIAE] Laureate and veiled head of Julius Caesar to right; behind, apex; before, lituus. Rev. C•COSSVTIVS / MARIDIANVS with A - A - A - F•F in angles. Babelon (Julia) 43 and (Cossutia) 2. Crawford 480/19. RBW 1687. Sydenham 1069. A beautifully toned example with a very impressive portrait of the recently murdered dictator. Struck slightly off center on a short flan and with minor edge chipping, otherwise, good very fine.

Crawford 480/5b. RBW 1679. Sydenham 1071. A very attractive piece, sharply struck and with a wonderful portrait. Some areas of flatness as usual, otherwise, extremely fine.
