M. Aemilius Scaurus and Pub. Plautius Hypsaeus, 58 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.89 g, 3 h), Rome. M SCAVR / AED CVR / EX - S C / REX ARETAS The Nabatean king Aretas kneeling right, holding olive branch and reins of camel standing beside him. Rev. P HVPSAE / AED CVR / CAPTV / C HVPSAE COS / PREIVER Jupiter in quadriga left, holding reins in his left hand and hurling thunderbolt with his right; below the horses, scorpion. Babelon (Aemilia) 8 and (Plautia) 8. Crawford 422/1b. RBW 1519. Sydenham 918. Beautifully toned with light blue, green, and gold iridescent hues. The obverse struck from a worn die and with a banker's mark, otherwise, about extremely fine.
