INDIA, Kushan Empire. Kujula Kadphises, circa 30/50-80. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 15.04 g, 12 h), 'Heraios type', Bamian Valley. Diademed and draped bust of Kujula Kadphises to right. Rev. TYPANNOYOTOΣ HAOY KOIIANOY Heraios on horseback to right, holding reins in his left hand and placing his left on the back of the horse; behind, Nike flying to right, crowning the king with a wreath; below horse, Σ AN AB. Donum Burns 9. Senior B1.2T. Sunrise 521. Beautifully toned and with a wonderful portrait. Light marks and scratches, otherwise, very fine.

SNG ANS 442. A fresh and attractive piece, perfectly centered and with a bold portrait. Tiny marks, otherwise, good extremely fine.

This coin is part of Eukratides' first issue, with a youthful diademed portrait of particularly fine style and the plain title 'King'. In later years, Eukratides would commemorate his outstanding military successes by wearing a horned Macedonian helmet and calling himself 'Great King' on his coins.
