Lot description: KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.05 g, 2 h), Pella (?), struck under Antigonos II Gonatas, circa 285-275. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; below throne, torch. Price 564. A boldly struck, beautifully toned and well centered piece with a powerful rendering of Herakles. Slight porosity and with a few light marks, otherwise, about extremely fine. Starting price: 250 CHF |
