MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 480-470 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 17.17 g). Lion right, attacking a bull collapsing to left with head raised to right; above, Θ; in exergue, stylized akanthos flower. Rev. Raised quadripartite square. Desneux 69-79 (unlisted dies). HGC 3.1, 383. SNG ANS 9. Well struck and of powerful late Archaic style. Deep test cut on the obverse and the flan slightly bent as a result, otherwise, extremely fine.
