Lot description: SASANIAN KINGS, Shapur I. 240-272 AD. AR Drachm (3.81 gm; 28 mm). Bust right, wearing diadem and mural crown with korymbos decorated with pellets surrounded by ring of pellets / Fire altar; flanked by two attendants wearing diadems (type 3b) and mural crowns, Faravahar symbol on the left. The last portion of the legend is duplicated directly at the bottom of the bust giving the impression of being a two line legend drachm which is extremely rare and not recorded. It is important to note that the lettering of the legends which seems duplicated are also different. SNS type IIc/1a, style G; Gobl type I/1; Paruck -; Saeedi -; Sunrise 741.
