Lot description: Q. Sicinius and C. Coponius AR Denarius. Military mint moving with Pompey, 49 BC. Head of Apollo to right, hair tied with band; star below, Q•SICINIVS before, III•VIR behind / Club upright, on which hangs lion's skin, arrow on left, bow on right; C•CORONIVS downwards on right, •PR•S•C upwards on left. Crawford 444/1a; CRI 3; BMCRR East 24-8; RSC Sicinia 1. 3.82g, 19mm, 5h. Very Fine; bankers mark on obv. Struck by Sicinius for the use of the fleet commanded by Coponius in the East, which was in support of Pompey, the formula S.C. was added to give the appearance of the coins being issued under Senatorial authority.
